Yulin city in China hosting another dog-meat festival in the summer of 2020 like every year since 2009 (twice a year).
It is expected to be the last of the festival that lasts for 10 days. It is reported that this year much fewer people and dogs are presented showing the popularity of it has gone down as a result of Covid-19 breakout.
Many people in China believe that dog-meat as a blessing that brings health and prosperity to them if it's eaten in summers. Along with dog-meat, cat-meat, liquor, and lychees are also sold in the event .
Despite the government's declaration of dogs and cats as pets, still, the festival is conducted this year but expected to be the last of it. WHO also highlighted that it is a high risk of spreading rabies and cholera.
Not only it is dangerous to humans but also many activists highlighting the increased cruelty during the festival, the way dogs been slaughtered, and the way they are transported to Yulin every year.
Peter Li, China policy specialist with the Humane Society International, said:
